Pet and dog-friendly self-catering cottages are in increasing demand - something the team here at Cottageline has been keeping an eye on for some time. These days, when we take on a new holiday rental, understanding whether or not it is pet-friendly is one of our top priorities. But it's not just about whether cottages accept dogs. When we add to our list of pet-friendly cottages we want to make sure that the property will make a good base for people who holiday with their pets. That means looking beyond the property itself. Yes of course, gardens, dog-proof floors and open fires are a consideration, but so are the less obvious facilities and local amenities. For instance, are there nearby pubs that accept dogs, dog-friendly walks or dog-friendly beaches? For people booking extended breaks, are there any kennels nearby in case they want a whole day out? (As many dog-owners will agree, no matter how well you might plan, something might crop up – from a day in a water park to a fishing trip - that you would love to do, if only you hadn't brought Fido with you!)
Each of the following pet-friendly holiday cottages has undergone a personal review by a member of the Cottageline team. We hope that their local knowledge will help you find the ultimate dog-friendly self catering holiday. Enjoy!
Buchan, Glentrool, Newton Stewart
Dumfries & Galloway
The Buchan offers an opportunity for a true wilderness holiday. Overlooking Loch Trool in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park (Britains only designated Dark Skies Park), originally the Earl of Galloway's hunting lodge, this historic house offers life at a different pace. Its systems are entirely reliant on nature with its own hydro electricity and water supplies.
