About the Region

Thames Valley, Windsor & Berkshire Downs:
The Thames Valley is an area created by the aortic, meandering of the non tidal River Thames as it runs through south east Oxfordshire, South Buckinghamshire and Berkshire with the Chiltern Hills as a backdrop. Pretty towns and villages sit on the banks of the river, waiting to be discovered and explored. Towns such as Sandford on Thames, Goring on Thames, Streatley on Thames, to name just a few. The well known Henley-on-Thames with its famous Regatta and its modern River & Rowing Museum can also be found in the region.

Other Thames Valley attractions well worth visiting, are Abingdon-on-Thames, England's oldest town, and Pangbourne-on-Thames once the home of ‘Wind in the Willows' author Kenneth. Small villages such as Gallowstree Common, East Hagbourne and Basildon, and are waiting to be discovered and explored. The Ridgeway National Trail, Britain's oldest road, runs west of the River Thames over the edge of rolling downland. You can join the Thames Path National Trail which follows 184 miles of England's best known river and passes riverside pubs, country houses and a range of other attractions including Royal Windsor and Windsor Castle. A 20 mile stretch of the Thames from Hurley to Runnymede marks The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead where you can discover 1,000 years of history.

The capital of The Thames Valley, and county town, Reading provides over 1200 years of remarkable history. It blends the very best of old and new and marks where the Kennet & Avon Canal joins the River Thames. The Premier shopping centre of the South east, The Oracle, offers a riverside setting and many restaurants and cafes.
